David Perdue's Charles Dickens Page
http://charlesdickenspage.com/
Dedicated to Bringing the Genius of Dickens to a New Generation of Readers. Charles Dickens: the name conjures up visions of plum pudding and Christmas punch, quaint coaching inns and cozy firesides, but also of orphaned and starving children, misers, murderers, and abusive schoolmasters. Dickens was 19th century London personified, he survived its mean streets as a child and, largely self-educated, possessed the genius to become the greatest writer of his age.
Dickens would go on to write 15 major novels and countless short stories and articles before his death on June 9, 1870. He wished to be buried, without fanfare, in a small cemetery in Rochester, but the Nation would not allow it. He was laid to rest in Poet's Corner, Westminster Abbey, the flowers from thousands of mourners overflowing the open grave.

Charles Dickens Birthplace
http://www.charlesdickensbirthplace.co.uk/
When Charles Dickens was born in this modest house in Portsmouth, on 7th February 1812, Britain's Navy was still at war with Napoleonic France. Charles's father, John Dickens, a clerk in the Navy Pay Office, had brought his young bride Elizabeth down to Portsmouth in the summer of 1809, renting the house as the first home of their married life.
The furniture, ceramics, glass, household objects and decorations faithfully re-created the Regency style which Charles's parents would have favoured, although their actual possessions have long since been dispersed. There are three furnished rooms: the parlour, the dining room and the bedroom where Charles was born. The exhibition room features a display on Charles Dickens and Portsmouth, as well as a small collection of memorabilia: the couch on which he died at his house in Kent, together with his snuff box, inkwell and paper knife, poignant reminders of an author celebrated for his prodigious talents and creative output.

Charles Dickens for everyone
http://www.dickens.asn.au/
Charles Dickens - read newsletters and books online. A verbose Victorian popular writer, of interest only to those with sheltered lives who shirk conflict? Hardly! From his own experiences in childhood, sent to labour in a blacking factory to earn a pittance for his family, Dickens knew adversity intimately.

Being forced to study Dickens at school gives the false impression that Dickens is verbose. A century of language changes, and bored rebellion of students makes even Dickens' words stream by meaninglessly. In actual fact, Dickens had contempt for verbosity in all things. He has also been called a clumsy cartoonist of character. Why then, does Dickens strike such deep chords of harmony with students of human nature? He was a natural anthropologist, with a deep affection for his subject.
